The Orange Rhino Challenge

I've lost count of how many times I've mentioned this topic on my blog :P.. but I have of course been no closer to my goal of actually getting into and accomplishing the challenge for even a month. So I decided it's high time I got into a public announcement of Day 1, today the 15th of January, 2014. I am also hoping to set up a counter on the blog, which will be reset every time I yell and hopefully will reach my goal of 30 sometime soon!

Yet again a post from her that struck home, especially the first few paragraphs which are so much like what I feel sometimes.

Why is it that I can control my temper in public, but feel that it's ok to lose it in private? Nail on the head, and a thought that bothers me a lot!

So in my journey to yell less, here's my first personal tip:

Tip 1: My biggest challenge is to step back in the instants before a yell builds up, and the best way I've found is to verbalize my feelings out loud. I tell my kids "I'm beginning to lose my cool" or something similar. That results in both of us stopping and thinking and 9 times out of 10 helps resolve the situation at hand :).

What's your best tip, all you non-yellers?

  1. What a coincidence I just blogged about anger and the Orange Rhino. You're right.. I also do not get angry in public but at home it's a different thing. All the best for your resolve. Will watch out for that counter.

    1. Thanks Shailaja.. I need all of it and more :). The counter, yes I wasn't able to find it yesterday as well. Considering I used to be a techie, I SHOULD be able to write one :P.

  3. I havent joined in the challenge, but mentally I am trying to.. i always say loudly, so I don't know how to identify her, that all the loud speech are not scolding! when I feel I am about to lose control, i warn again saying i am not liking the behaviour and that i am getting angry.. the spankings have been less for the last two weeks. maybe its also the effect of blogging more.. cant say exactly... seems more we vent it out through other means(friends/blog), we achieve more patience to deal with them...

    1. Yes true Archana, I think the more we talk about it the more real the problem it becomes to us as well :). And believe me, I was on that mental challenge mode for a while before I thought of announcing! Thanks so much for dropping in and commenting. I see you're on a Blogathon this month, will catch up on your posts soon!
